The bistro is named "Zerelda's" in honor of my sweet grandma. She was a wonderful cook, mother, and grandmother whose food inspired and taught me the fundamentals of cooking. She helped me appreciate the meaning of "bringing family together" with food. I close my eyes and still smell the waft of fresh-baked bread, see her roughened hard-working hands shaping pie crusts for freshly picked blackberry pies, gently swaying while humming gospel hymns. Grandma Zerelda passed away several years ago, but I keep her memory alive through my food, and I honor her with "Zerelda's" namesake.  I hope Juneau's community will come on by and try a taste of the past blended with the cuisine of my present!

About Chef Abby

Chef Abby LaForce has been cooking in Juneau for over 13 years. She started her career in catering and then opened Zerelda’s Bistro in 2016. Her cooking background is influenced by Abby’s passionate Filipino-Chinese mother/teacher, a southern grandmother, and training with chefs from around the world at an Oregon cooking school. She then taught cooking classes in Oregon for 5 years before moving back to her hometown Juneau, Alaska. 

Zerelda’s menu demonstrates her background of Asian fusion, southern comfort roots, and pacific northwest cuisine. Chef Abby uses many local ingredients such as wild berries, foraged mushrooms, herbs, lettuces, vegetables, sprouts and fresh seasonal seafood.

Jeremy Barnett, a military Veteran and transplant from South Carolina has been cooking for over 12 years. He began his cooking career in Hawaii, working at Roy’s Waikiki then assisted in the opening for Roy’s Anaheim, CA restaurant. Barnett gained additional skills per the culinary school at the Santa Ana Art Institute and later found his love of barbeque. He opened his own food truck in Pennsylvania, serving a plethora of local wood-smoked meats, regional fusion style sandwiches and burgers. Chef Jeremy’s culinary love for all things carnivorous, wood-smoked and Southern are portrayed throughout Zerelda’s Bistro menus!

Zerelda’s Bistro carries their own blend of espresso from Sentinel Coffee, which is roasted weekly in Gustavus, Alaska. The Bistro offers daily fresh baked pastries, cupcakes and sweet treats to enjoy with a hot beverage.

Zerelda's Bistro's style is fun, open, and friendly. Zerelda’s is perfect for everyday dining or special occasions. Come for a coffee and a pastry or cocktails and small plates or everything in between.
